Thursday, September 22, 2011

2012 Honda Pilot has been upgraded, enhanced and improved, right from the grille to the engine; powerful performance and better mileage packed within captivatingly sleeker looks. Honda Pilot, 2012 gives you two miles more per gallon on the highway compared to the earlier model. The eight-passenger SUV has an EPA city-highway combined rating of 25 mpg.

The four models of the 2012 Pilot start with LX; go on to EX, EX-L and finally the premium Touring, each in 4WD and 2WD configurations. Pilot Touring is the premium offer in this range. Under all the hoods, 3.5-liter 24-valve SOHC i-VTEC® V-6 Aluminum-Alloy engines produce 250 hp and 253lb-ft @ 4800-rpm torque.
Good news starts right at the front: a grille with a three bar chrome-styling, dynamic contours and an alluring finish have fashioned the total new upscale look, you look for in a SUV of this class. Upgrades have gone quite ahead of the looks. A new front air dam and optimized strakes (rectangular air deflectors positioned in front of the wheels) reduce frontal air turbulence and result in the 2012 Pilot’s better fuel economy.

Low-friction piston treatments, ion-plated piston rings, load-variable alternator and high-efficiency spark plugs make more mileage per gallon possible. If at any time and if anyone thinks 25 mpg is after all not a big deal, recall that 2012 Honda Pilot carries eight passengers. The mpg is definitely attractive for such a large vehicle.
In Handling, 2012 Honda Pilot scores a point with the front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link trailing arm supported suspension and redesigned chassis. Low-rolling resistance tires, low-drag front ventilated and rear disc brakes and improved aerodynamics help in superior driving pleasure.

Rides are quieter and peaceful; acoustic Windshield, refined chassis and improved insulation cut down outside noise. Honda Pilot EX and higher models run on coveted 18-inch wheels. All Pilot SUVs have a power tailgates and lift-up glass hatches, which make stowing the luggage, less cumbersome. Camping-comfort also has got a word in; you can tow 2000 pounds with 2WD and 4500 pounds with 4WD 2012 Honda Pilot.

Spacious it is; 2012 Honda Pilot can comfortably seat eight adults in the 153.7cu.ft. Once inside, you can rearrange seating, hold your breath, in 16 different ways, if you want to expand the 18cu.ft cargo space to as much as 87cu.ft. Simplified keyless entry, front and rear air conditioning and air filtration are standard on all the four variants. Tilt and telescope type steering column and liberal space for the driver contribute to driving comfort. Those looking for tri-zone automatic climate control, with 10-way power adjustment with lumbar support for the driver's seat, can opt for Pilot Ex and above.

Melody department is geared quite well: AM/FM/CD stereo system with seven speakers, subwoofer and Radio Data System (RDS). AAC audio file playback from data discs to the CD player and Bluetooth are the additions to Honda Pilot-2012, right from LX onwards.

Safety in a vehicle of 2012 Honda Pilot class, will naturally and does provide advanced protection systems. Maintaining stability and ameliorating skid and rollover effects are taken care of by a combo of Standard Vehicle Stability Assist, Anti-lock Braking System with Electronic Brake Distribution and Brake Assist and cruise control.

Dual-stage, multiple-threshold driver and front-passenger's air bags, 3-row side-curtain airbags with rollover sensor as well as the passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System mind the cushioning duty (in case of mishap.) Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System with rearview camera is included in the Pilot Touring.

Awards have naturally followed the 2012 Honda Pilot; fitted out, as it is all these heart-warmers, it has charmed the people who know cars. "Best Value of the Year" from IntelliChoice, "Most Wanted SUV," and “Best Retained Value Award for Non-Luxury Brands” from Edmunds.com, Kelley Blue Book's "Top 50 Most Popular Cars" and other trophies have paid off the Honda R&D Americas’ R&D efforts. Just for the record, Honda Pilot’s 2012 model is manufactured at Lincoln, Alabama. Plush and efficient, 2012 Honda Pilot keeps the family in smiles, even on a long drive.

Honda and Soy Beans

Thursday, September 8, 2011

Honda Cars and soya beans; does it sound to be a curious combination? Not really, considering that Honda of America Mfg., Inc. invests in environmental protection as much it does in manufacturing cars. A visit to the Honda Plants in Marysville, and East Liberty, Ohio shows by a dozen methods, that though tailpipe emissions are inevitable, at least as of now, there are ways to limit the effects.

You will be struck by the lush soya bean fields spanning 3.6 million-square-feet, surrounding this huge auto plant. It takes just 16 hours, to fashion spanking Honda Accords here. You may be tempted to stretch the imagination a little bit and say the scene looks like ballet; but it is only the persistent efficiency producing top class cars, Honda Acura TL and Honda RDX (the first four-cylinder luxury SUV). The idea is quite simple; eliminate waste as much as possible and the pollution will be controlled.

As you move around, you may hear an interesting anecdote. In early days, car parts were brought in containers, which had to be returned empty. Honda hit upon a bright idea; they filled the containers with the finest soya Ohio was yielding in abundance and exported it to Asia. In the process, Honda of America also became Ohio’s largest exporter of organic soya. The idea is cute from two angles – it saved a deal of freight and it also decreased pollution.

To paint the instrument panels, there is a giant robot; powered by 70,000 volts, it turns at a giddy 35,00rpm. This minimizes overspray, and the little dribble is caught by the dry limestone powder spread underneath. The limestone goes to cement kilns as raw material. Once again, it is Honda’s way of controlling paint sludge. Additionally, you get Acuras or RDXs with a sophisticated painting. Actually, Honda is greener at 10 other plants, in Alabama, Indiana, having attained zero-waste goals.

Even while making 586,000 cars and 771,000 V-6 and four-cylinder engines in Ohio alone, Honda is taking resolute steps to minimize pollution at the manufacturing-stage.

When you drive, an Acura or any other Honda car, you can be confident on two fronts. As much as 80% of it is made in America. And, it is made by a manufacturer endeavoring to keep this earth greener.
